‘Sun Cut Flat’ Colaborations
The band “Sun Cut Flat” used a variation of Ed’s drawing “Me and You” as the cover art
for their new release “Copy Machine Dream”. Ed painted a drum head for the band
based on the painting “The Next Thing”, which he is shown above presenting to

Painting Completed
“Fibonoctive Road”, a 15-year project, is now
completed. Originally started in the the mid-1990’s, Ed
thought he could improve it a couple of years ago by adding a
top layer with the Molotow acrylic paint markers that he
currently uses. That lead to another layer, and another layer,
and another ... many layers latter it still didn’t feel done.
Adding the vertical white stripes, at the top, added another
dimension of depth, creating a glowing plane behind the top
surface that finally made it feel whole.
The painting’s line squences are all based on Fibonacci
and octave sequences in many combinations. The right side of
the “road” is gentle curves based on Fibonacci numbers and
the left side of the “road” are angles based on an octave
pattern. (An octave pattern is where the sequence takes place
in a matrix of 8 spaces.)

for the cover of their new EP, entitled “2012”, and “Tsumani” for the cover of
their single “Just Before Dawn”. Their upcoming single, “Wild Rumpus”
will use the painting “Unresolved Void” for a cover,
and look for their CD soon.
A Turning Point?
In retrospect this 2012 painting, “Letting Go” was
where the seed was planted to explore Islamic
geometric design. One of the beauty’s of Islamic
patterns is the fact that there are many patterns
within each pattern, but you can only fully grasp
each pattern by letting go of your consciousness
of the other patterns.

“Me and You”
This drawing was inspired by the many songs that
use the terms ‘me’ and ‘you’ to describe your
current self versus the better self that you are
working on becoming. (Depending on the
viewpoint of the song, sometimes ‘I’ is substituted
for either ‘me’ or ’you’.)
Dave Mason’s “Look at You, Look at Me” (from his
1970 album “Alone Together”), to me, is one of
the best examples of this. It is still a song that
can make me cry.
The two circular shapes represent the life of each
entity. The top circle is formed by the elements
around it. The bottom circle is seen reaching into
(or coming out of) a larger dimension.
This explanation of what the piece means to me
now, is not to infer that I planned it in advance.
At the time of its creation, I was focused on how
the interaction of a few layers of line sequences
would play out visually.“
